The Manual Therapy Institute offers 3 different programs:
This consists of 17 courses over a 2.5 year period, followed by a written and practical
exam. A certificate is rewarded upon successful completion of the program.
This consists of 440 supervised hours, in addition to the 2.5 years of course work.
The fellowship program provides the fellow with the opportunity to evaluate and
treat patients with an experienced faculty member. We work together with more than
20 clinical sites throughout the country where fellows can complete their supervised
hours. Fellow status in the AAOMPT is awarded upon successful completion of the
fellowship program. The programs puts a strong emphasis on advanced evaluation and
treatment skills. A sound framework of clinical reasoning and decision making is
being taught, from which a skilled treatment will follow. This takes the fellow
beyond the level of just randomly applying manual therapy techniques. Over a 2.5
year period, 17 weekend courses are taught, in addition to 3 home study courses.
The curriculum is set up according to AAOMPT guidelines in their "Standards for
Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship Training".
Completion of the fellowship program will count towards fulfilling the requirements
of a tDPT degree. This program is offered through Rosalind Franklin University,
Department of Physical Therapy. For further information contact the tDPT Program
Director, Dr. Donna Frownfelter at donna.frownfelter@rosalindfranklin.edu or (847)
578-8514 Successful completion of these programs demands a great deal of commitment,
time and effort on your part. You will have to study regularly and you will be given
assignments. Skills will be tested through written exams, practical exams and case
review.
