The Manual Therapy Institute is dedicated to effective teaching.
Graduates will have expert skills in examination, evaluation, diagnosis,
prognosis, intervention, and discharge planning of individuals in the
outpatient neuro-orthopaedic physical therapy setting. Upon graduation
our therapists will be prepared to not only perform their professional
role in patient care, but also to provide leadership and contribute to
the growth of the profession through involvement in teaching and research
of manual therapy within our professional community.
Following completion of the program, MTI graduates will be academically
and clinically prepared for Fellowship status in the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and/or APTA Board Certification in
Orthopedic Physical Therapy. To meet these general goals, the MTI has
established the following objectives:
Upon completion of this program, the graduate will:
- Demonstrate advanced clinical decision making skills through the use
of differential examination, goal setting, and intervention progression
with emphasis on evidence based practice in the management of individuals
with impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities related to
neuromusculoskeletal pathologies.
- Provide appropriate intervention procedures for the spine and extremities,
through the use of high velocity thrust techniques, mobilization of joint,
soft tissue, and neural structures, and tissue specific exercises.
- Be equipped to sit for the OCS or Fellowship exam by completing all
coursework, completing clinical hours, and passing the MTI examination.
